Fiberworks is proud to offer custom long-arm machine quilting services. Hand-guided long-arm quilting is our specialty. Laura Heine's professional quilting has won numerous machine quilting awards. She takes pride in her workmanship while taking extra special care of your quilt while it is in our possession at our non-smoking, full-service retail location here in Billings, Montana. Using our Gammill long-arm quilting machines, Laura features quick turn around, reasonable prices, hundreds of pantograph designs, and over fifteen years of creative experience to draw from for free-motion motifs.
Simply ship your quilt and the backing to us and let us decide on the perfect design for your quilt. Let us know which quilting option you would like us to work from (see descriptions/rates below). Specify your batting choice—we have several cotton and poly–cotton blends to choose from (see below for descriptions/rates). Unless specified, we will choose the best thread combination from our vast collection of machine quilting threads. We carry numerous weights and colors in solid and variegated combinations.

Guidelines for preparing your quilt for machine quilting:
- The backing and batting must be at least 4" larger than the quilt top around all four sides, or 8" total.
- If your back is pieced, the selvages must be removed and the seams trimmed to 1/4" and pressed open.
- Backing and batting must be square with straight edges.
- Please, do not pin the layers together.
- If your quilt will have scalloped edges, cut the scallops after the quilt is quilted.
- Do not sew buttons or beads on the quilt top until after it is quilted. If your quilt comes to us with buttons or beads you run the risk of us cutting them off or the machine breaking them. It takes extra time to deal with them.
If you have questions or need an estimate, please contact us regarding our machine quilting service.
Long-Arm Quilting Classes with Laura Heine
Long-arm quilting is the best way to machine quilt your quilts quickly and beautifully. Machine quilting on your home sewing machine is similar to drawing but you have to move the paper (fabric) instead of the pencil (needle in the machine). Quilting with a long-arm quilting machine brings you back to that familiar experience of drawing with a pencil.
At Fiberworks, we have two Gammill long-arm quilting machines set up in a large classroom for you to use. You can learn all the basics and much more from Laura Heine, an expert long-arm machine quilter. The Basic Long-Arm Quilting Class will give you the foundation needed to become a proficient long-arm quilter. Once this class is completed, you can rent one of our long-arm machines to finish your quilts quickly—or you'll be better prepared for making the decision to buy your own long-arm machine!
After you've learned the basics, Laura offers advanced long-arm quilting classes that teach additional techniques such as pantographs, advancing the fabric, cross hatch quilting, etc. Laura has also designed some long-arm quilting patterns for creating rugs on long-arm machines.
- Long-arm quilting lets you finish quilts in hours instead of days!
- Long-arm quilting doesn't require pin basting!
- Long-arm quilting gives professional results!
- Long-arm quilting makes king-size quilts a breeze!
- Long-arm quilting is fun!
